Gnat Pass is located approximately 30km South of Dease Lake. This area is rich in history as this pass boasts the unfinished BC Rail Northern Expansion Project rail clearing. In 1960 construction began to construct a rail line from Fort St. James to Dease Lake. However due to economic and financial devastation, the project was abruptly halted, and an unfinished road remains. Tourists can now hike/horseback or travel this road for many kilometers. Vehicle traffic is very limited due to rough terrain.
